Today’s feast, forty days after Christmas, is a bright mystery. Traditionally we call this “Candlemas”, because it usually involves the blessing of candles, symbolizing the “light” that Simeon spoke about in our passage from St. Luke.

The Lord wants us to recognize that He has come and is here in our midst. He promised to come and save us and now He is here.
