Over the last two weeks we have talked about the rationality of the cross, how God satisfies his own character by substituting himself in our place and taking His own judgment. We have talked about suffering, how in the cross we find companionship, consolation, and hope in the midst of suffering and evil. We talked about how, at the cross, we are confronted with our identities as culprits of suffering and evil rather than simply victims of it. This leads us to the great invitation of the gospel, to receive grace and forgiveness, to be saved by grace through faith. This is the free gift of God, fully accomplished by him for us.
