A recent study has revealed that heavy cannabis use can lead to significant changes in brain structure, particularly affecting the cortical thickness in the left lateral orbitofrontal cortex, a region important for impulse control and decision-making. After monitoring heavy users over three years, researchers found a correlation between the severity of cannabis use and these brain changes, highlighting the potential long-term effects of substance use on mental health and behavior.
