This week Shaun tells us the very grim story the of Issei Sagawa a real-life cannibal who, being obsessed with cannibalism for as long as he could remember, would finally carry out his self described 'fetish' when he killed his 25-year-old classmate, Renee Hartevelt in 1981.

Renee was a tall, pretty, highly intelligent and independent woman. The kind the Sagawa had long dreamed about. After seeing the white skin of her arms, he became infatuated with her and asked if she would help translate the literature they were studying. She agreed and the two struck up a friendship.

In June however, Sagawa's urges were becoming to much to control and he lured Renee back to his apartment. While she sat facing the window, Sagawa took up a gun he had hidden and shot her in the neck. And so at the age of 32, Sagawa finally could enact his cannibalistic fantasies.

He kept the body in his apartment for four days before he decided to get rid of it by dismembering it, putting it in suitcases and heading to the public park to throw the suitcases in a lake. Why he chose to this in broad daylight or a Paris summer evening is anybody's guess, but he was spotted by multiple people lugging the two heavy suitcases - that were leaking!

Eventually two joggers approached Sagawa, asking about the suitcases. Denying they were his, he left the park. The joggers however decided to open the suitcase...
