Psalm 136 verse 25: Who gives food to all flesh, for His mercy endures forever.
When Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray, there's a line in the prayer that He taught them to pray that says, Give us this day our daily bread.
The Bible says that all things are from Him, through Him, and for Him. God is your source. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, give us this day our daily bread, He was teaching them to acknowledge that what sustains you and what keeps you comes from God. God is your source and everything else is resource.
I know that people do not see God as much as they should see Him because they see themselves more. You're the one going to work. You're the one making the calls. You're the one asking for help. You're the one advertising the business. Many people are so blessed and fruitful and prosperous in the field of their craft or their career that they think that it is from them. But the truth is, God is your capital investor. He's the one who gave you capital for anything you have become and anything that you have today. In other words, without His capital, you'll be nothing.
If you are doing so great and you're so brilliant, you have to recognize that God gave you the mind to understand, the brain to think. You have to acknowledge that you have been helped by God.
Nobody is self-made. You were carried by God. God enabled you to become whatever you have become and He allowed you to have whatever you have. So when you tell the story of your life without acknowledging how you were helped by people, positioned by God, then you have told the incorrect or incomplete version of the story of your life.
It is God who gives seed to the sower and bread for food. In other words, He gives you capital. You can decide but God determines. You're not a brilliant businessman because you studied from the best institution. Your brilliance is a channel through which God shows His excellency.
The excellent spirit actually needs vessels to express himself. So God gave you the capacity to read and to understand. Even your hard-earned money isn't really yours. You have what you have because God gave it to you. And when you understand this, you realize that God is your source and everything else is resource.
But someone says, but why do unbelievers also have prosperity if it comes from God? Well, the Bible says that He causes rains to fall on the righteous and the wicked. God is responsible to all men on two levels. First, creation and second, covenant. And what it means is that God is a responsible God. He will take care of all that He has created. However, there's a second dimension of God's responsibility to man, which is covenant. And this happens when people come into a covenant relationship with God through salvation, accepting Him as their father.
Friends, give us this day our daily bread means that it doesn't come from you. And so whether or not it is within your reach, recognize that it is within your reach because God put it within your reach.
Have a blessed day friends.
