Captain Joe and Panto frantically removed water from below the deck of The Decade Bird for several hours. As the ship slowly descended, it also quickly drifted further north. The water got colder and colder and caused pain to the two pirates as they reached their buckets into it, but they pressed on. Captain Joe was motivated by his love for his ship. Panto was motivated by his terrible fear of drowning.
The two managed to keep the deck of The Decade Bird above the water line until sunset. Then, the deck finally sank below the surface of the sea, and there was nowhere to stand, so Captain Joe and Panto released their buckets and climbed the mast. They joined Mr. Bones in the crow’s nest...
