Car Phone | Lesson

Listen Later

What is a lesson?A lesson is a decision that compounds to make a better life. Maybe the lesson is learned, read, or dreamed. Whether or not abided, the lesson is true for life. These lessons are not original. Publishing lessons is not an act of claiming the knowledge, but clarifying it.

This lesson is simple. The phone stays in the car when you come home or enter a place where the phone does not support the activity, like the church, the gym, or a social gathering.

Especially on working days, you return home fatigued or forlorn. Some days are lived without good intentions. The day’s duties and stressors wither and close the joyous heart. Feeling deprived, you reach for the phone, but the phone is not the heart’s true desire. Phone use in the home is not restorative. Instead, its thrills numb the deeper feelings, which are lessons when given the space to be felt.

The home is a sanctuary. Time with friends is a sanctuary. The sanctuary is a sanctuary. Be done, and the temptation will flee. In the quietude of sanctuary life, the mind settles, giving the quiet heart a chance to speak.

Decide to fill your phone’s battery during your commute, never bringing the phone into the home. When you pull into the driveway or walk into the foyer, put away the phone. The phone does not enter your living quarters. The phone is left behind. The phone can be a car phone.

The next step is to leave your computer behind. But you’re not there yet.
