Welcome to episode 3 of Caregiver Diaries!
Dementia… A syndrome which causes a gradual deterioration in memory, thinking, behavior and the ability to carry out everyday activities. Worldwide, around 50 million people are affected by the disease, making it one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people.
Our third episode brings to you the story of an invisible warrior who was a primary caregiver to his father, who suffered from Dementia. He shares with us the challenges that came with each stage of the disease and affected not just his father, but also those who were caring for him. Overtime, his father began showing symptoms of depression and started behaving in an overly aggressive manner. He stopped sleeping despite being prescribed strong sleeping pills. Such changes, led to his hospitalization.
He reflects back on his journey of caregiving and opens up about how caregiving also comes with feelings of frustration and helplessness.
