A safe place to sleep with an array of healing services can be a turning point for many who come to Hope of the Valley shelters. However, challenges to establishing these communities and permanent housing options range from zoning laws to attitudes about unsheltered persons. Ending homelessness requires addressing the complexity of the issue, including the trauma, addiction, and the mental health issues of the unsheltered, along with the logistical barriers created by laws and a lack of understanding for those who find themselves without a safe, permanent home.
