The Electricity Authority's arguing the country will pay less for power, if the national grid pricing is re-jigged.

It wants people who benefit the most from our high voltage wires to pay more for their upkeep.

Chief Executive Carl Hansen told Mike Hosking the current system doesn't encourage companies to invest in making transmission cheaper.

He says right now manufacturers are interested in buying batteries to reduce the transmission demand, rather than finding a way to reduce the costs of transmission.
