Carl Jung often spoke about what happens when a person finally lets go of control and surrenders to the flow of the universe. He didn’t use those exact modern words, but his writings on the Self, individuation, and synchronicity capture the essence.
For Jung, the Self (with a capital “S”) is the totality of who we are—both conscious and unconscious.
When we stop clinging to the ego’s need to control, we open ourselves to the deeper wisdom of the Self.
This surrender doesn’t mean passivity, but rather trusting inner guidance and the natural unfolding of life.
He said: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
Jung introduced the concept of synchronicity, or meaningful coincidences.
When someone aligns with the universe (by letting go of resistance and following their deeper truth), synchronicities appear more often, guiding them.
In this way, letting go opens the door to living in harmony with a greater order rather than being trapped by ego’s illusions.
Jung taught that letting go allows the process of individuation—becoming whole.
The ego loosens its grip, the shadow is integrated, and the person connects with their true essence.
This often brings peace, creativity, and a sense of purpose, because life is no longer lived in conflict with itself.
When you finally let go and follow the universe:
You experience less fear and more trust.
Life begins to feel guided rather than random.
Your energy shifts from control to co-creation.
You begin to live out your authentic destiny.
As Jung put it:
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
