Carl followed his father from field to stream to ocean and found his passion. He caught an IGFA fly-fishing world record bonefish that weighed 15 pounds, 1+ ounce (often cited as 15.3 pounds). He landed this trophy fish in the Florida Keys using 20-pound tippet, and and IGFA 36 lb 8 oz record permit still stands as the IGFA 12-pound tippet-class.
