Carl Pynenburg: Teachers want a clear career path to keep them in profession

Listen Later

Teachers are looking at a number of options, including striking, to get their point across to the Government.
Primary teachers and principals have turned down the Ministry of Education's latest pay offers.
Carl Pynenburg, a teacher at Wellington's Worser Bay Primary School, told Mike Hosking many teachers have families, so understand the stress strikes can put on families.
"So we're going to look at a whole bunch of options and that's going to go to the membership of NZEI, and they're going to look at those different options in staff rooms around the country."
He says primary school teachers feel they don't have enough options.
"They need to create a career pathway, something that says my only pathway in this job is not to go through to management and leave the classroom."
