  • Thankful~n~Thoughtful
l woke up one morning with this groove looping through my brain. As I got up and got into the day it just hit me, and I started singing this Sly tune from back in the day - always been one of my favorites and the message is right on point to this very moment. I'm thankful to still be here.
All respect to brother Sly Stone for bringing us this one.

  • Digging In My Father's Toolbox
So once again, music comes to the rescue right on time! Since my dad passed I've been processing the loss and the memories, and finding my peace with the new reality. Out of the blue, this vibe hit me and filled my soul and gave me a way to express what I'm feeling. It's a work in progress, but I wanted to go ahead and share it with y'all and let you feel the joy in it. The title to this song was written many years ago, but the words weren't available to me until now, so I know it took time and experience for it to write itself.
Big UPS to my dad and all the fathers out there who are living their legacy and passing it on.
    Bless up.

  • It's Summer - Los (+)
I couldn't resist putting this one out today - one of my favorite songs by The Temptations. My Mom bought me the album, "Psychedelic Shack" when I graduated from 6th grade, (she was incredibly cool) and it was a life changer! I learned every song on that album and wore the grooves off of it! I loved all of the songs, but for some reason, this one always stuck with me - maybe it was Melvin Franklin's soothing voice, or just the feeling of joy at the return of summer that it captures. Many years ago, before you could find whatever you wanted online, I was wishing I could hear it again, and I just decided to record my own version of it, with a little help from my daughter, Soraya, on flute.
Happy Summer everyone! If you can, get out and get into it.
    And enjoy it. (carefully) ;-)

  • Twistin' The Night Away
One of my Mom's favorite songs. My brother and I put this together in celebration of her birthday, November 26th. We can just see her dancing and laughing like she loved to do, and it makes us feel like she's right here with us.

About Carlos Jones

From the publisher's feed

Carlos Jones has been sharing his musical inspiration with Cleveland and the surrounding area for over 40 years, earning him the unofficial designation of “The Iron-man of Cleveland Reggae”. Born in Virginia, his earliest musical influence was the gospel music he heard in the church where his grandfather preached. In the mid-60s his family moved to Frankfurt, Germany, where he became fascinated by the Beatles and other popular music of the time. A few years later, after moving back to the states, his main musical interests were Soul, Jazz, Blues and Rock music, until he discovered Reggae in the mid 70s, which led him to seeing Bob Marley perform and then joining one of Cleveland's first local Reggae bands. He started out in 1978 as a side-man (percussion/vocals) with I-tal, one of Cleveland’s first homegrown Reggae groups, and then in 1984, split off from I-tal along with several other members to form the group, First Light.
