On June 11th 1994, 16-year-old Ramona Wilson of the Gitxsan First Nation planned on travelling from her home in Smithers, British Columbia, to Hazelton, some 75 kms away, to meet up with her best friend to go to a graduation party, however, Ramona never showed. By the following morning, friends and family became concerned for Ramona's welfare as she failed to return home. A search ensued for the teen, however, tragically, ten months later, her body was found under some trees behind Smithers airport. Foul play is suspected, but unfortunately, her killer has never been brought to justice.
