One summer, after I gave a reading of these stories to kids living in Chicago’s notorious Cabrini Green housing projcect, they asked me about Candyman, the Hollywood villain created as a mashup of several urban legends. I told them Candyman was just a story, invented by a clever writer. They told me I was wrong. And so began looking deeper into the Candyman legend What I found. . . is that the kids were right.
