Built by the Spanish in St. Augustine to defend Florida and the Atlantic trade route, Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fortification in the continental United States.

Its long history includes battles against pirates, British military, hostile native tribes which has left numerous unmarked graves on the grounds. Add to that a native chieftain whose head was stolen from his corpse and a pair of lovers bricked away within the walls and you can discover why the fortress is haunted.
