A few weeks ago I heard a phrase that got my attention. It said you cannot clean a fish unless you caught it first. And the idea was, if you want someone to become a disciple of Jesus and you want to train them to know God, to enjoy the Bible, to practice prayer, to go to church and worship, to partake of holy communion, to be baptized - all those good things - first of all somebody has to catch the fish and bring them in.

Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” If you’re a believer, whether you're a kid or a father or mother, a grandpa or grandma, if you want to be used of God you can be. Follow Him and He says, “I will make you fishers of men.” In other words I’ll open opportunities for you. I'll give you the right words. I will help you to share your faith, and to be able to lead some of them into the kingdom of God.

Then you turn them over to the church or to people who are very patient and kind – disciplers as we call them – so that they can clean them out and help them to shape up and walk with God, and enjoy life in Jesus Christ. But somebody has to catch them first. I want to be that someone, and I hope that you do to.
