Intro to the day: “In the mystery of the Incarnation the wisdom and the power of God are made known; the wisdom, for He found a most suitable solution for a most heavy debt; the power, for He made the conquered conquer.” –St. John Damascene
Today is Tuesday of the Third Week of Advent. We are praying for the faculty, staff, and families of Blessed Miguel Pro Catholic Academy, Westminster, CO.
Today is the Feast of Blessed Filip Siphong Onphithakt, a layman and catechist in the early 1900s and one of the Seven Martyrs of Thailand. A father of 5, he took charge of his local Christian community after their parish priest was forced into exile due to government persecution. Filip’s openness about his faith and opposition to anti-Catholic laws led to his arrest and death for Christ.
Gospel: Matthew 21:28-32
Saint of the Day: St. Thomas Aquinas on why the Son, and not the Father or Holy Ghost? From Summa Theologica
Marian prayer for the day: Alma Redemptoris Mater
Mother of Christ, hear thou thy people's cry
Star of the deep and Portal of the sky!
Mother of Him who thee made from nothing made.
Sinking we strive and call to thee for aid:
Oh, by what joy which Gabriel brought to thee,
Thou Virgin first and last, let us thy mercy see.
V. The Angel of the Lord announced unto Mary.
R. And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts: that as we have known the incarnation of Thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an Angel, so too by His Cross and passion may we be brought to the glory of His resurrection. Amen.
