Just as always, you can't sleep. Every night, you wonder if the monster  will be back. Some nights you try to convince yourself that it was just a  horrific nightmare, but the mark carved into your hand won't allow you  to maintain that fantasy for long. You can only lie there and worry. You  lie perfectly still, eyes closed, trying to think calming thoughts.  Maybe they won't come at all. Maybe you're safe.
