' “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” '
Mark 12:29-31
God desires that we do not just follow him, but that we follow him with our all and lay our lives at the altar to him as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1) He does not want us to be caught up in the middle like some kings Of Israel and Judah. They were willing to follow God but still retain the high places used for idol worship.
