Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo (ON 1991) was Academic Captain of Cavell. She holds Spanish, Argentine, and French nationalities and has chosen Spain as the place for her professional and personal life. A historian, journalist, and Member of Parliament, she has an outstanding academic and political career. She earned a degree in History from the University of Oxford with a double first-class degree and received the Gibbs Prize in History. She worked as a columnist and Head of the Opinion Section at El Mundo, for which she was awarded the Silver Microphone in 2007.
As a politician, she has served several terms as a Member of Parliament for Madrid and Barcelona, spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group, and member of various parliamentary committees. Together with intellectuals such as Mario Vargas Llosa, she founded Libres e Iguales, an association that defends democracy and the Constitution.
Recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and awarded the Civil Society Award for Civism in 2017, she combines her parliamentary work with an active intellectual and journalistic career. In 2024, she received the Inter-American Press Award Dr. Horacio Aguirre for Opinion Journalism from the Inter-American Institute for Democracy. She is the author of "Politicmaente Indeseable" and the mother of two daughters.
