Freedom in Christ is real, but so is the pull to go back. In Paul’s letter to the Galatians, we see that believers who had been rescued from slavery were drifting toward it again.

We do the same. We return to old sins, old mindsets, and old ways of trying to earn God’s love.

But Jesus didn’t set you free so you could live bound. He calls you forward.

This week, we’ll look at the danger of turning back, and the joy of taking your next step in true freedom.

Galatians 4:8–20

As we continue through Galatians, we’re discovering the freedom Jesus came to give. This week, we’ll see we don’t come to God as slaves trying to earn His favor, but as children who already belong.

Christ didn’t set us free so we’d keep living in bondage. He set us free to live as sons and daughters. Join us as we learn what it means to live from sonship, not slavery.

Galatians 4:7 “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”

Trying harder won’t set you free. Being better won’t either.

Freedom is found in Jesus alone

In Hebrews 12:1–3, we’re reminded that this race has a clear beginning and a promised finish, requires preparation and perseverance, and must be run by faith with our eyes fixed on Jesus. This Sunday, we’ll consider what it means to run well and endure to the end in “Running the Christian Race.”

We are wired for community and connection, but sometimes our desire to belong can lead us to live in ways that pull us away from Christ.

In Week 2 of our Set Free series, we turn our attention to what it means to live free from the need for the approval of others. As we walk through Galatians 1:10–2:10, we’ll discover what it looks like to stop living to please people and start living for an audience of One.

Many people sit in church every Sunday, involved in religious activity, believing they have faith, yet unsure of what genuine saving faith truly entails. We see people who live 'good' lives or were raised in religious families, and we might assume they are saved. But what is the difference between mere intellectual acceptance to the facts of the Gospel and the type of faith that actually saves? Jesus, in Matthew 7, warns that ‘not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven'. This implies that there is a faith that is not unto salvation, a faith that ultimately misses the mark, much like the foolish virgins in the parable who ran out of oil. So how can we know for sure? How do we identify the authentic, God-given faith that assures us of eternal life? This Sunday, we will open God's Word to explore the genuine signs of saving faith. We'll look at the biblical evidence of a heart and life transformed by the Holy Spirit, the kind of faith that produces lasting fruit, a life of love, and a growing desire for holiness and obedience to God's Word.

One of my all-time favorite John Wooden quotes says, “There is a choice you have to make in everything you do—and the choice you make, makes you.”

Too often we forget that God has given us real choice in how we live. Without realizing it, we slip into autopilot—making unexamined decisions that slowly shape a future we never intended.

This Sunday, join us for a special New Year message, “Out of Auto Pilot.” Together we’ll walk through Proverbs 27, using it as a spiritual mirror—a litmus test for where our faith is right now and where God may be inviting us to grow as we move into 2026.
