On today’s episode of CCR, we reviewed Gatchaman Episode 16, “The Indestructible Machine Mechanica”. And now that school is done for another semester, I have time to write up proper show notes!!
The episode revolved around a giant, metal, transforming reptile named Mechanica that transformed through the Awesome Power of 8-Track Tape!
Oh, and Nambu and 4/5ths of the Science Ninja Team seemed to OD on stupid pills. The hero of this episode and the most competent was by far, Jinpei, the 10 year old kid.
Now it’s time to meet our
Commander of the Week
Meet Commander Pollywannacracker. His strengths as a commander are squawking (literally) and holding team-building exercises.
One of Mechanica’s modes is that of the rare Frilled Turret Lizard. Here we see the Frilled Turret Lizard in it’s unnatural habitat with it’s trainer, Lord Berg Katse on his Hover-Segway.
As mentioned earlier, this week’s mech is powered by the Awesome Power of 8-Track Tape!* Here we see Katse holding this awesome power in his hand.
Hmm, I wonder what is the awesome force behind this power? Let’s have a closer look, shall we?
Molly Hatchet is a truly awesome force that enables Katse to ramp things up and go to town even more than he could with a Boston mode, a Jethro Tull mode, or any other 1970s arena rock mode.
*Not to be confused with Awesome Mix-Tapes Volumes 1 & 2 from Guardians of the Galaxy. Even Galactor isn’t that cool.
Dan mentioned a toy that he had as a child that reminded him of Mechanica. After searching high and low, he found reference to it online. The toy was called Terron The Beast From Beyond and you can find more information on it here. http://www.3dsuperjoes.com/terron-the-beast-from-beyond.html
There’s even a video on You Tube that shows how it works:
And Now for Something Completely Different
And don’t forget…FOUR more episodes until Puppy-palooza!
We hinted in the episode that we should plan to do something special since we’ve been hyping this up so much.
Well, we are. We didn’t mention it in the episode because, well, since we’re a low-budget operation, we didn’t think of it until after we recorded Episode 16.
What is this special thing we’re doing?
In addition to our regular episode review, we will be recording a bonus commentary track of the actual episode “A Critical Moment for the Science Ninja Team”!!
If you own this episode or have access to it, you will be able to watch it “as we do” and listen to our pithy remarks and commentary. It’s like watching the episode with us there!
So on July 9, 2017 (which is the scheduled date for episode 20), you will get not just one, but TWO episodes of our podcast. Sweet, huh?
