    In John 13, we see Jesus command His disciples to love one another as He has loved them. As we gather this week, we'll see that discipleship is more than learning the teachings of Jesus; it is learning to live and love like Jesus. As followers of Christ, we are called to do more than grow in our knowledge of Scripture. We must allow His love to shape how we serve, lead, encourage, and care for others. Discipleship means becoming more like Jesus while helping others do the same. When we love people as Christ loves us, we demonstrate the transforming power of the Gospel and show the world who He is.     There’s something powerful about having a friend who will refuse to let you stay where you are. In Mark 2, four friends saw a man who couldn’t get to Jesus on his own, so they picked him up, carried him, and tore a hole in the roof just to get him to Christ. That’s partnership. Real friends won't just celebrate with you when life is good; they'll carry you when life gets heavy. Someone once said, “A true friend will carry you when you can’t carry yourself.” That’s exactly what these men did. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” We need friends who will pray with us, fight for us, and help us get closer to Jesus. Join us we continue, this week, looking at true Friendship.

    What does friendship with Jesus look like when following Him gets difficult? In Daniel 3, we see a powerful picture through three friends, feeling very real pressure. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were commanded to bow before an image, but they refused to compromise their worship. Their response was simple: “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us,” but even if He didn’t, they would still remain faithful. That is what worship looks like. It's not just singing on Sunday morning. It is choosing God when the pressure is on. It is trusting Him when we don’t understand what He is doing. It is remaining faithful when obedience comes with a cost. Notice this: God didn’t keep them out of the fire. He met them in it. When we walk faithfully with Christ, we may still face the furnace, but we will never face it alone. Come be apart of worship this Sunday as we continue our series on Friendship.

    Not every person who calls themselves a friend has your best interests at heart. In the story of Judas, we look at how false friendship can hide sin behind a smile. Judas walked with Jesus, talked with Jesus, and looked like all of the other disciples, but underneath it all, greed and hypocrisy were growing.
    False friends can be like a smoke alarm with dead batteries. They may look like they are there to protect you, but when danger comes, they don’t warn you or even guide you. Judas appeared close to Jesus, yet when the moment came, he betrayed Him with a kiss for a few pieces of silver.
    This week, we'll see the reminder to be careful about who we allow to influence us. Although love and friendship should be the goal, wisdom and discernment should hold the reins. True friends help us move toward Christ, not away from Him. Join us this Sunday as we continue our series on Friendship!

  • Hardship | Pastor Rick Wright | The Church at CW
    We all have people in our lives who are dealing with circumstances beyond our understanding. When someone we love is hurting, we often search for the right words or an explanation but sometimes the best thing we can do isn’t explain their pain - it’s to enter into their pain with them. Hardship is a part of life. Job discovered that pain can come unexpectedly, but difficult seasons also reveal what is really inside us. When life gets hard, our faith is tested and revealed.
    Job’s friends started well. They showed up, sat with him, and their presence brought comfort. But eventually, their assumptions about Job’s suffering turned comfort into condemnation. They tried to explain what they could not understand, and their words caused more pain. Graciously, Job’s story doesn’t end with hardship. God shows compassion and faithfulness as He rebukes Job’s friends and ultimately restored Job.
    We may not always have the answers, but we can always choose to be present. Be the friend who stays. Join us this week as we continue our series on Friendship by looking at Job and the topic of Hardship.

    Do you remember when you got your very first driving lesson? You climbed in the front seat and that instructor climbed in beside you. At first, they walked you through the basics - helping you learn the car - know when to brake, when to turn, and how to stay on the road. Eventually though, and much direction later, that instructor handed you the keys. That was mentorship. That’s what Barnabas did with Paul. He saw something in Paul that others couldn’t see yet. He welcomed him, stood beside him, helped him grow, and then eventually stepped back so that Paul could lead. That’s what a good mentor does. They don’t try to keep you dependent on them. They help you become everything that God has called you to be. The goal isn’t to make people followers of us, but to help them become faithful followers of Jesus. Join us on Sunday as we dive into the book of Acts and look at Mentorship.

    Good friends are like guardrails on a mountain road. They don’t drive the car for us, but they keep us from going somewhere dangerous.
    In 2 Samuel 12, Nathan was that kind of friend to David. He saw danger in David’s life and had the courage to confront him. Nathan didn’t ignore the problem or tell David what he wanted to hear. He delivered the truth, even when it was difficult. Yet Nathan’s goal wasn’t to destroy David - it was to lead him toward confession, healing, and restoration.
    Real friends do more than celebrate us when things are going well. They love us enough to warn us when we’re heading the wrong direction. A true friend doesn’t just protect your feelings; they help protect your soul. Join us this week as we continue our Friendship series by looking at Guardianship.

  • Kinship | Pastor Rick Wright | The Church at CW
    Real friendship is more than having someone to hang out with. It’s built on something deeper: covenant, commitment, and character. In 1 Samuel, Jonathan and David show us what godly friendship looks like. Their relationship was built on a shared heart and a willingness to honor one another, even when it cost them something.
    But true friendship is also proven when life gets difficult. A real friend won’t simply tell you what you want to hear. They’ll have the courage to confront sin, stand beside you, and remain faithful when things get messy.
    And the best friendships leave a legacy. Jonathan’s faithfulness to David eventually blessed his own family. The right friends don’t just make our lives better-they help us become better people and point us closer to Christ.
