Ceasefire First, Votes Next!

Listen Later

UW-Madison graduate student and Students for Justice in Palestine spokesperson Dahlia Saba joined Thursday 8 O’Clock Buzz hosts Tony Castañeda and Eli Wilz to talk about the necessity of a total arms embargo and ceasefire prior to the November presidential election.

In Wisconsin’s April Democratic Presidential Primary, over 48,000 voters checked the “Uninstructed” box to indicate their opposition to the US policy in the Gaza-Israel war. VP Kamala Harris, the party’s likely candidate in the general election, has expressed her support for a ceasefire but with the announcement this week of a $20 billion weapons sale to Israel, that goal seems out of reach.

With the election just under three months away, Listen to Wisconsin urges voters to sign their “Not Another Bomb” petition, and “Ceasefire First” pledge, which reads: “I pledge that I cannot in good conscience vote for Vice President Harris until at least one of the following conditions are met: a permanent ceasefire is achieved, OR Vice President Harris publicly commits to halting all weapons to Israel to enable a ceasefire if she is elected.”
