In 1 Peter 2:13–25, Peter teaches that following Jesus means responding to authority, disagreement, and unfair treatment in ways that honor God. Christians are called to submit to governing authorities and show respect, even when they disagree with those in leadership, because their ultimate motivation is devotion to Jesus, not agreement with the people in charge. Humility does not make Christians weak; it demonstrates they belong to God and can trust Him to judge fairly. When we experience mistreatment or injustice, we can stand for what is right without retaliating or allowing someone else's behavior to determine our own. Jesus is our ultimate example because He endured suffering without seeking revenge, trusting His Father to judge fairly. Through His death on the cross, Jesus not only provides forgiveness for our sins but also enables us to live differently. Submission to authority reflects devotion to God.

  • The Purpose of Identity | Neal Rich | 10.25.26

Jesus is the cornerstone on which we build our lives, and when we choose to follow Him, He gives us a new identity as God’s people. Peter describes believers as living stones being built together into God’s spiritual temple and as a royal priesthood called to represent God wherever they go. But our identity comes with a purpose: God has called us out of darkness into His wonderful light so that we can show others His goodness. Living as followers of Jesus in a world that doesn’t always share our values can be challenging, but we aren’t called to withdraw from the world. Instead, we’re called to live honorably among those who don’t know Him, demonstrating His grace, integrity, forgiveness, compassion, and love through our everyday choices. People aren’t just listening to what we say about Jesus; they’re watching how we live. Our lives can either make Jesus harder to see or help others recognize His goodness. The best argument for Jesus is a life that looks like Jesus.

How should my life look different when I follow Jesus? In 1 Peter 1:13-2:3, Peter looks at this very question. Rather than allowing the world around us shape our thinking and behavior, we are called to prepare our minds and put our hope fully in Jesus. As we grow in holiness, we learn to love others deeply and put away our former way of life. Living a holy life is both about stopping some of our former behaviors and about feeding our new life in Christ by craving God’s word. We don't live holy lives to become God's people; we live holy lives because we are God's people. If you follow Jesus, your life should look like Jesus.

  • Living Hope | Neal Rich | 10.11.26

In 1 Peter 1:1–12, Peter writes to Christians who are struggling, feeling rejected, and living in a world where following Jesus can make life more difficult, not easier. He reminds them that they are chosen by God and have a secure identity that circumstances and rejection cannot take away. Their hope is not wishful thinking or blind optimism; it is a confident expectation grounded in the resurrection of Jesus. Those who trust in Jesus experience new life through Jesus’ resurrection and have received an inheritance that cannot be taken from them. Peter acknowledges that suffering is real, but reminds them that God can use trials to deepen, refine, and reveal genuine faith. Even when they cannot see what God is doing, they can trust Him because their faith is built on the reality of the empty tomb. Our hope is alive because Jesus is alive.

  • Share Your Story | Neal Rich | 10.04.26

This week, we are concluding our Rounding the Bases series: Come, Grow, Serve, Share. In Acts 8:26–40, Philip shows us what it can look like to share our hope with others. Philip listens to the Lord and obeys even when the direction doesn’t make sense. He notices the person God has placed in front of him and asks questions. He listens to the Ethiopian eunuch’s story and then starts where the man is and leads him to Jesus. The story reminds us that God is already at work in people’s lives before we ever enter the conversation, so we don’t have to carry the pressure of changing someone. We simply need to be faithful with our part. Jesus has given every believer a calling to hear the Holy Spirit’s nudges, ask genuine questions, trust that God is already working, and help people take one step closer to Jesus. Ultimately, sharing our story is not just about having the right words; it’s about having a heart that cares about the people God has placed around us. We come, grow, serve, and share because the gospel came to us so that it can now go through us.
