This time last year Ireland was a nation at prayer. Preceding an abortion referendum in May, a group of Irish men and women climbed Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s holy mountain, to fast and pray in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. This was the place where St Patrick spent 40 days in prayer and fasting for the Irish people 1500 years ago. In today’s show we have a fascinating account of this penitential initiative, in imitation of Patrick, which lasted 40 days and nights up the approach to the referendum, on this beautiful and bleak mountain overlooking Ireland’s Atlantic coast. At the conclusion of the fast a solar miracle was witnessed.
