In the second episode of the NEP Podcast series, Dr. Bose will help us understand and decode how the policy defines Foundational Numeracy and its intention to universalize foundational numeracy. The new policy highlights foundational literacy and numeracy as the urgent and necessary prerequisite to learning; we will explore how and why the policy has given utmost importance to literacy and numeracy over other sections of the policy and sets 2025 as the target year for universal attainment of it. We will also discuss the nature of learning when introducing one-on-one peer tutoring for learning and monitoring of the child. And how teacher training should be revamped to attain the foundational numeracy, whether the dependence of student learning and teacher education on the digital platforms will be beneficial.
Dr. Arindam Bose is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Education Innovation and Action Research (CEIAR), TISS, Mumbai. He is the Team Lead, Mathematics Team in the Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx) Project and Coordinator of the Science and Mathematics Education Group, CEIAR, TISS, Mumbai. He is also the Faculty-coordinator of the MA Education course, TISS Mumbai. His Research Interests lies in Out-of-school mathematics and implications for school math learning, Language diversity & mathematics learning, Sociology of Mathematics education, Ethnomathematics, and Number Theory.
