What has happened to Oklahoma State?

Stillwater’s legendary eatery Eskimo Joe’s is even hotter than the Big 12’s OSU Cowboys football team.

A 69-3 shellacking at the hands of the reigning NIL champion Oregon Duck$ has Oklahoma State fans plenty upset.

Longtime OSU coach Mike Gundy opened-up a bottle of truth serum last week.  He told the assembled media that the University of Oregon is buying a top-rated college football team with $40 million worth of NIL goodies being handed out to its football players.

The big sugar daddy for the Oregon Duck$ football team is rumored to be Nike’s billionaire founder, Phil Knight.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning took a shot at Mike Gundy (whose team spent a reported $7 million in NIL loot on its football team).

We spend to win. Some people save (money) to have an excuse for why they don’t, right?” said Lanning last week.

Saturday’s 69-3 embarrassment at Oregon was Oklahoma State’s worst loss since the year 1907.

OSU coach Mike Gundy is now in his 21st year with the Big 12’s Cowboys.  He has posted only two losing seasons in his first 20 years as the team’s head coach.

Unfortunately, last season’s 3-9 record (0-9 in Big 12 Conference play) already had fans on edge heading into the 2025 campaign.  Coach Gundy (who played quarterback at Oklahoma State during the 1980’s) agreed to restructure his contract after last season with his current contract buyout estimated to be $15 million.

Don’t expect Oregon to lend Cowboys’ fans any money to finance that buyout!

Louisiana Tech’s Bulldogs gave #3 LSU a tough game in 23-7 loss to the Tigers

LSU’s impressive season opening 17-10 win at Clemson apparently went to their heads.  The Tigers were vaulted up to #3 in the AP poll this week following their big road win on national television.

LSU played its first home game of the year on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium against intrastate foe Louisiana Tech.

Somebody forgot to tell the 37-point under (bull)dogs about how the script for this game was supposed to go.  LSU fans expected Louisiana Tech to lose by 37 or more points and then happily collect their $1 million paycheck walking out of Tiger Stadium as the bus caravan drove everyone safely home to Ruston.

The Bulldogs barked and Tigers hissed at each other’s offense for much of the night.

LSU emerged with a hard-fought 23-7 win to move to 2-0 on the season.  Louisiana Tech fell to 1-1 but earned a lot of respect from the 102,000 mostly LSU fans on Saturday night.

LSU’s lack of offensive punch has become a growing concern heading into this Saturday’s home game against the Florida Gators (1-1).

The LSU offensive line was the team’s biggest question mark before the season began.  Unsurprisingly, the Tigers have tallied just 17 and 23 points in the first two games.

LSU’s much-improved defense cannot be expected to carry this team every week of the season.

Congratulations to Coach Bill Belichick for his first win at North Carolina!

The 73-year old NFL coaching legend took his 0-1 Tar Heels on the road Saturday evening into Charlotte to face the equally 0-1 49ers.

Something had to give.

Charlotte had more first downs (21-15), more time of possession (31 minutes to 29), but also threw two interceptions to the North Carolina defense which effectively torpedoed their chances.

North Carolina’s 20-3 win was the first for their rookie head football coach.  UNC will host the FBS Richmond Spiders next weekend.  The pressure ramps up with a road trip to Orlando to play UCF in two weeks.  The Heels will host defending ACC champion Clemson on October 4.

Clang those cowbells!  Mississippi State upsets #12 Arizona State on last minute TD

Football fans of the Mississippi State Bulldogs haven’t had many chances to break-out their famous cowbells in joyous celebration in recent years.

The Bulldogs completed a 59-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds to play and surprised the former #12-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils 24-20 in Starkville on Saturday.  It was the biggest win for MSU against a top 15 non-SEC opponent since 1991.

Mississippi State is now 2-0 with a good chance to roll a turkey (three in a row) next week at home against the 0-2 Alcorn State Braves.

Keep an eye on these up and comers in 2025!

Illinois – Quarterback Luke Altmyer looks like a Heisman candidate as the Fighting Illini moved to 2-0 with a 45-19 drubbing of Duke in Durham, North Carolina Saturday.  Altmyer passed for 295 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Oklahoma – Sooner transfer quarterback John Mateer also joined the Heisman chat with a dominant 270-yard passing game and added 74 yards on the ground in OU’s 24-13 win over Michigan.  The 2-0 Sooners need to win these early season games as their final seven match-ups will be incredibly difficult.  Oklahoma will have home games with Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri, and LSU and then takes to the road to play at South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.  OU (CH)!

South Florida – The 2-0 Bulls entered the AP Top 25 this week at #18 after kicking a game-winning field goal on the final play to upset the former #13 Florida Gators 18-16 in Gainesville.  That makes two straight top 25 wins for South Florida after the Bulls stampeded #25 Boise State 34-7 in Week #1.  They will go for three in a row Saturday as the Bulls charge into Miami to play the #5 Hurricanes.

Expectorate the unexpected from the University of Florida!

The NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter was thrown out of his team’s season opener last Thursday for spitting on Dallas Cowboy quarterback Dak Prescott.

On Saturday in The Swamp, University of Florida defensive lineman Brendon Bett became the next player to hurt his football team by being flagged for an unsportsmanlike pitooey!

Florida was holding onto a narrow two point lead late in the fourth quarter when Brenden “Hockaloogie” Bett let loose on an unsuspecting South Florida offensive lineman.

The 15-yard penalty moved South Florida closer into field goal range as the upstart Bulls kicked a 3-pointer on the game’s final play in a 17-16 win.

Florida head coach Billy Napier was spitting fire afterwards.

When a guy does something like that, he’s compromising the team. He’s putting himself before the team,” said Napier.

Florida travels to play SEC rival LSU on Saturday night in Baton Rouge. The LSU public address announcer always pumps up the home crowd before kick-off by saying, “The chance of rain? NEVER!”

This week, he might want to add, “But there might be a chance of personal precipitation coming from some of the Florida players!”
