The Woodman constructs a ladder for them to climb over. The travelers are taken aback by the appearance of the other side of the wall. On the opposite side, there are china houses and people scarcely taller than Dorothy's knees.  They meet a Chinese princess who Dorothy hopes to bring to Kansas. She denies that anyone who is transported out of China becomes stiff and immobile. The travelers realize they are out of place in their surroundings and decide to depart.
