The Loka Chai Maker seamlessly fuses the rich heritage of traditional chai making with modern technology, making it easier than ever to enjoy this beloved beverage. It is addressing the common frustrations of home chai preparation: spills on the stove, scattered tea and spices, stubborn-to-clean pots, and complex ingredients.

Their story: A few years back, Loka cofounder Anish Shonpal—a lawyer by trade—was diagnosed with cancer at age 36. His then-pal-now-also-Loka-cofounder Nikhil Shah—an entrepreneur who works in music and tech—would meet him for chai walks between treatments. Growing up in Indian families, they were both raised on the tea and its rituals. Anish would make chai, put it in tumblers, meet Nikhil outside, and one day, you guessed it, the two got to talking about how freaking annoying it was to make and clean. Classic case of, there has got to be a better way.
