The Residential Tenancies Act 1986 (RTA) sets out the rights and obligations of landlords and tenants of residential properties. A range of changes to the RTA has been introduced through the Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2024 (RTAA 2024), which became law on 17 December 2024. These include changes to rules regarding tenancy terminations and keeping pets in rental properties—these changes will take effect from 30 January 2025.
