Chapter 11: Letting Go Without Fully Understanding Why

Listen Later

Sometimes the shift comes first… and the understanding comes later.

Sometimes something loosens… before there’s language for it.

Nothing has been decided.

Nothing has been said out loud.

But internally, something is no longer being held in the same way.

A shift in feeling.

A slight hesitation where there used to be certainty.

A quiet awareness that something is changing… without knowing exactly what.

You’re still inside it.

Still showing up.Still participating.

But not in the same way.

Less tightly.

Less automatically.

There isn’t always a clear reason.

No single moment to point to.

Just a gradual sense that something no longer sits where it used to.

That’s difficult to trust.

Clarity usually comes first.

Understanding, then action.

This moves in the opposite direction.

Sometimes you get the thing you always said you wanted. And it doesn’t feel the way you thought it would. Not because you’re ungrateful. Not because something is wrong with you. Because you’ve changed since you made that wish. The wanting was real. It just belonged to an older version of you. And she already got what she needed from it.

The shift arrives early.

Understanding lags behind.

And in that gap, there’s tension.

Part of you wants to stay.

To keep things as they were.

To hold onto something that once made sense.

Another part can feel that it no longer fits.

Not dramatically.

Just enough to notice.

And that makes it harder.

Because this isn’t a clean decision.

It’s a slow change in truth.

Something becoming less aligned… over time.

So you wait.

You stay a little longer.

Try to understand it more fully.

To find the exact reason before anything changes.

But that clarity doesn’t always arrive the way you expect.

There isn’t always a single answer.

Just a series of small recognitions.

Moments where something feels slightly off.

Moments where something that once felt easy… now feels effortful.

Moments where you notice yourself adjusting… instead of moving naturally.

Over time, those moments accumulate.

Not into a conclusion.

Into a knowing.

Quiet.

Persistent.

Unresolved.

And asking to be acknowledged.

Even without words.

Even without explanation.

Letting go doesn’t always begin with a decision.

It begins with a shift in how something is held.

A loosening.

A softening.

A subtle release… before anything is actually released.

The work isn’t to force an answer.

Or rush toward clarity.

It’s to stay with the shift.

To feel it without needing to define it immediately.

To remain in the space between…

where something is ending…

and something else hasn’t begun.

That space matters.

Even when it’s uncomfortable.

Even when it doesn’t make sense.

Something is moving there.

Quietly.

And for now…

that’s enough.
