As Jeremiah observed the potter at work, he noticed that the vessel which was being formed out of the clay got marred at some point. And the potter had to fix that. This means that a vessel being formed or shaped by the hand of God can be marred. Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of King Saul was born a prince. As a little boy he had a nurse who took care of him. When news broke that King Saul and his father Jonathan has been killed in battle, the nurse in haste picked him and in fear fleeing dropped the boy and he became lame. David woke up one day and desired to show kindness to the house of Saul for the sake of his friend Jonathan. None could be found but Mephibosheth. David have him the greatest privilege - to eat continually at his table. Mephibosheth replied, why pay attention to such a dead dog like me. He has lost hope in himself and devalued his life. Such are many Christians. They have been marred by the scars of broken trust, the wounds of unfaithfulness and the pain of rejection. They treat others with pain of yester years. The can’t love themselves or others because they were denied or abused in life. Humankind has a way of hurting and marring each other and yet the potter keeps working on the vessel.
