Characteristics Of An Effective Scrum Master
As a #ScrumMaster, it’s up to you to build #effective and #highperforming teams. These teams deliver #consistentresults and #communicateeffectively with #ProductOwners and #Stakeholders. It takes careful #consideration and a lot of effort to #achieve, but it can be done-- here are some of the #qualities found in almost every successful #Agile team.
1. #COLLECTIVISM
A #collective spirit should be fostered within #Agile teams-- this includes a shared vision, a #perspective as a #unified body, mutual #respect and #trust between team members, and continuous, #effective #communication. You’re all #essential parts of a machine working hard to deliver #consistentvalue. This is not to diminish the individual #strengths and #achievements of team members, however-- #empower individuals but work together as a #collective, #cohesive team.
2. #ALIGNMENT ON #PERFORMANCEOBJECTIVES WITH OTHER #DEPARTMENTS
Because #highperforming #Agile teams work with a “one-team” spirit, their #performance objectives are #aligned in a similar way. #Organizations that have a #strategy defined around #ProductDelivery, as opposed to #ProjectDelivery, have little to no problems setting #objectives as all decisions are based on building the #quality of, and #delivering, the #product.
#Organizations that have not moved to a #product-centric #mindset often struggle in setting #performance #objectives. #Teams are still formed around people #representing different departments. These #organizations frequently fall into hierarchical structures that limit the effectiveness of #ProductCreation and #Delivery, as they’ll be the final word and focused on their #department #objectives. In such circumstances, #team members may have to bear the brunt of interdepartmental politics, but ultimately, it’s #productquality that suffers.
3. #SUPPORTIVE AND #INSPIRING LEADERS
An #effective leader is critical to making a #highperforming #Agile team. Leaders of #highperforming #Agile teams inspire the #team constantly instead of controlling and micromanaging how the team acts and works. The #abilities of a leader lie in how well they can #communicate ideas and messages. The #leader should regularly #communicate with the #team about the #goals and #directions of the #organization, challenge the #team to question the status quo, set ambitious goals, provide an opportunity for individual #growth, and always be available for any kind of #support the #team may require. There should be a #consistentbelief that the team can #achieve what’s set before them.
#Organizations need to move from being dependent on #leaders and stiff #management, and move as a #collective, flowing like a wave. As a #Leader, you tie this together, while avoiding creating stiffness and inflexibility. This is where the value of high-performing #teams is realized
