Charity joins us to discuss growing up on the west side of Detroit, her experience being homeschooled and raised in her father's Missionary Baptist Church, attending Tennessee State University, how she made a name for herself as an electrifying performer who creates high quality content, the story behind many of her hit songs, and much more. She performed with R&B legends such as Eric Roberson, Angie Stone, Eric Benét, Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, and PJ Morton. Charity has been featured in BLAC Detroit, Detroit Metro Times, Hour Detroit, Detroit Free Press, SoulTracks, HuffPost, and Billboard. She showed so much promise with her debut song "Sounds Like Love" released in 2011; the Motown influenced artist then took the world by storm in 2015 with the release of her adoring EP Yellow; she proved that she was a force to be reckoned with after releasing her CLASSIC debut album Tender Headed in 2020. Tender Headed helped so many get through the highly tumultuous and unpredictable year of the Pandemic, thus garnering over 1 million streams on Spotify. Charity can't be put in a box as you'll hear influences of R&B, Neo Soul, Folk, Pop, Funk, Acoustic, Hip Hop, Trap Music, and Gospel in her music. What we love most is the instrumentation, close attention to detail, and simplicity of the lyrics packed with so much depth and vulnerability. Charity recently submitted a live performance of her hit song "Cruel" to a Tiny Desk contest with Top Shelf and was chosen in the top 45 performers out of 7000+ submissions. This accomplishment alone speaks to her artistry and her undying commitment to spending 10000+ hours perfecting her craft. You definitely don't want to miss this inspiring conversation!!
