Our holiday chase for transcendent love from imperfect people sets us up for a letdown.
Transcendent Love - Unconditional + Unfailing
We need a love that both feels “for us” and also “fixes us”.
Christmas reveals that we’re made for a transcendent love we can’t fully provide.
Christmas is where we try to make life as we wish it would be - Goodness/Relationship/Love
Our chase to experience Christmas often leaves us exhausted, stressed, and glad when it’s over.
Christmas isn’t a chase
How do we experience an unconditional and unfailing love that we all so desperately need?
Ancestry of Jesus Christ:
This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.
“Joseph, son of David”, the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”
The first Christmas is about: God showing up personally to bring us unconditional and unfailing love through Jesus!
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! This is how we know what love is: Christ gave his life for us.
Transcendent Love:
Christmas is God’s transcendent love in action for ALL to see and have!
