In this episode we continue to discuss the Mediterranean diet and question the research that supports it. We find that although it is healthier than the typical Western diet, it doesn't appear to be the answer to the epidemic of heart disease in the world. We also discuss the sad news that the 1.5°C rise in temperature that the Paris Climate Accord set as its limit, has already been exceeded, and the implications of this.
In this episode we discuss the Microbiome containing trillions of microorganisms, mainly in your gut and how helpful it is to your health. Also we start to discuss and analyse the Mediterranean diet and ask the question is it really as fantastic as it's made out to be. We describe the fundamental food components of this diet and ask how good is the research behind it?
In this episode we discuss how reduced-meat or vegetarian diets can reduce inflammation inside the body and how tis can reduce heart disease and decrease your chances of getting cancer. Additionally these diets can actually slow the aging process.

In this episode we discuss the later work and research of Dr Dean Ornish, including how exercise can actually help you to grow new brain cells, as well as protecting your heart. Also, how research has shown that eating wholegrain food protects the heart, how many foods are inflammatory and others are anti-inflammatory. Finally, the same kinds of diet and lifestyle changes that protect your heart also protect you from developing cancer and can even reverse cancer growth.
In this episode we discuss Dr Ornish's ongoing work, research and theories following the publication of his original book. Also, how plant-based (reduced meat or vegetarian diets) can not only prevent and reduce heart disease, they can enable weight loss which stays off! We also discuss the best way to exercise for good heart and general health in this episode.
In this episode we discuss the work of the other great pioneer of low fat, plant-based diets to combat heart disease, Dr Caldwell Esselstyn. We discuss his personal journey to his "epiphany" and his transformation to a vegan low-fat diet. This diet produced great beneficial effects in his patients with heart disease. He also contrasts the typical Western diet with the traditional low-meat, low-fat diets of developing countries, which had very low rates of heart disease and other chronic diseases.
In this episode we return to diets that are good for your heart, help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels and which are also good for the planet. In particular how taking a multivitamin and omega 3 supplements bring multiple health benefits.
These topics are also all covered in detail in my book:
In this episode we discuss how you can change your life to help protect the planet, stop climate change and get healthier at the same time. Also, the destructive effects of the ever-increasing consumption of meat. How it affects the animals. The sad fact that we are losing the war against climate change.
I miss episode we continued to discuss the effects of climate change and in particular it's devastating effects on wildlife, which has declined by two thirds in the last fifty years and also lots of biodiversity. But there is something that we can all do about it and that is to eat less meat or become vegetarian because animal agriculture is fuelling these problems. We can also use more renewable energy sources and travel in a green way. These changes are also good for heart health and general health.
In this podcast we continue to discuss the destructive effects on the planet of climate change. But the good news is that there are things that we can all do to help reverse this process. One is by changing what we eat. By eating less meat or going vegetarian we cause only a fraction of greenhouse gases to be emitted compared to a regular meat containing diet, whilst making ourselves healthier at the same time. This combined with changing how we travel, how we use energy can make very significant differences and start to reverse the process.
