In this episode, I chat with high level black belt competitor Alex Enriquez. We discuss her BJJ journey and how she believes BJJ has evolved over the years, as well as her preparation methods for preparing for competition, how to make a smooth transition to a new academy, and how she has curated her life to pursue her BJJ goals.


ABOUT ALEX:

Alex Enriquez started BJJ at KnuckleUp Fitness at the age of 11 (circa 2010) under Steve Mitchell and began wrestling at Cambridge high school (4 years) under Don St. James. She continued in college for 2 more seasons under Christian and Ashley Flavin and graduated with an exercise science degree at Life University in 2021. She received black belt under Bruno Frazatto and Nathan Hadley in December of 2021 after making the switch to Atos Atlanta in late 2020. She started strength training and lifting under Monique Travis at the age of 14. She’s been teaching BJJ and kickboxing classes since 16 years old.

Some of her accomplishments include:

  • Multiple Gi and No Gi IBJJF Pan American titles (orange, purple, and brown) in weight and open class
  • 2021 IBJJF No Gi Worlds Title (brown)
  • IBJJF No Gi Pans Title (black)
  • IBJJF Gi Worlds Medalist (Blue, Brown)
  • 2021 ADCC East Coast Trials Runner-Up (-60kg)
  • 3x GA Girl’s Folkstyle State Champion, 3x High School Folkstyle (USAW) and Freestyle (Fargo) All-American, and 2020 WCWA All-American
  • Her goals include winning multiple black belt world titles (gi and no gi), an ADCC title, and becoming a notable jiu jitsu coach/instructor that helps guide you to achieve your fitness and sport goals.
