Alberta man David realised he could save over $1000 a year if he declared himself as a woman to his car insurer. Hey, he wanted a new Chevy with all the bells and whistles and as a man in his early 20s - he’d be paying through the roof ($4500 a year!). So he decided to go ahead and change his gender declaration on his driver's licence and birth certificate.
He did this with help of a doctor, who simply wrote him a note that said David would like to be a woman, even though he doesn’t. With his new birth certificate and driver’s licence in hand, he got a new insurance policy as a woman, saving $91 a month.
