Pastor Taylor Shippy - Hebrews 2:14-17

We are on our second week of discussing "Atonement: Cherish that Old Rugged Cross." This week we will be looking at a 'classic' view of the atonement. A view held nearly unanimously by Christians for the first 1000 years of the Church's existence. It is known as the "ransom theory" (an off-shot of the Christus Victor or "Christ the Victor" view of the atonement), where by it was believed that on the Cross Christ dwelt with the forces of darkness and the devil to liberate us from our imprisonment to sin. Perhaps it might be beneficial or a means of grace to think like our early Christian ancestors did from time to time?
