Cheer Up!
“I’ve told you this so that my peace will be with you. In the world you’ll have trouble. But cheer up! I have overcome the world.””
John 16:33 GW
If you’ve lived any number of years in this world you’ll agree with me that Jesus’ statement here about having trouble in the world is ever true.
Everyday comes with its own trouble - if it’s not external trouble of war and rumors of war, heartless kidnapping & killing of innocents, poverty and the unceasing cry for help - then it’s the internal/personal troubles of lack, betrayal, failure, heartbreak and the like.
Even Jesus says
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:34 NKJV
But hey, Thanks be to God that Jesus did not leave us hanging and desperate for answers. Here are His assuring words that I’ll love to echo to you today - “…But cheer up! I have overcome the world.””
But it did not start there - Jesus said “I told you this…”
To thrive in this world to the point where other people look at you and wonder how you do it despite all the troubles within & without - HIS WORDS must be your anchor.
This is what I do - when faced with any trouble - I look for what the word of God says about it and His promises over the matter
Here is a few:
When you’re afraid of the troubles in the streets:
Gen. 25:15 - Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go
When you’re worried:
John 14:1 - ““Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
John 14:27 - ““I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Matthew 11:28-29 - Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
When faced with perpetual battles:
Psalms 68:19 - Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation!
John 16:33 - “I’ve told you this so that my peace will be with you. In the world you’ll have trouble. But cheer up! I have overcome the world.””
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we are grateful for your word that has been the anchor for our souls in this troubled waters called the world. Daddy we pray that you grant us the grace to always remember your word and fill our mouth with your praise in Jesus name! Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!
