Best book about Shavuot
Best book about Shavuot!! We have all the regular Jewish books on Shavuos from Artscroll, Feldheim, etc etc but this one is so unique and fantastic. Brings the holiday to life in a very unique way.
A wonderfuly simple yet profound book for children!
I enjoy Ofanshky's perspective on children's books. She takes the seemingly mundane practices and through pictures makes them memorable to small children
Allison Ofanansky
Our family loves this author. She makes Israel real. It is a good Shavout book and a good social studies book.
A Class Learns About Shavuot Through A Hands-On Project
A class learns about the holiday of Shavuot by making a cheesecake from scratch. Wheat is planted in their school garden in the fall; they are educated about the process of how it grows until around the time of Shavuot in the spring. They milk goats at a petting zoo and are given fresh goat cheese, which fits nicely into their plan of making cheesecake. When the wheat is dry their teacher shows them how to thresh and winnow the wheat. The students in the class then have a hands-on experience of making the cheesecake once they have all the ingredients for it.
I love to read and review children's books like this one that encourages hands-on learning experiences for them, especially with ways that teach them more about the Bible. I loved that the children learned about the meaning of Shavuot, how to reach out to the poor, and how they worked as a team during the class project. I was glad to run across a recipe in the back of this book, which most any teacher would need to make a class cooking project a success.
Recommended for children ages 3-11/ grades Pre-K-5
