Cherokee County property owners in Georgia have thru today to file an appeal for their property assessment value. Annual tax assessment notices were sent in May, and those wishing to contest their assessment must file an appeal online at www.cherokeega.com/tax-assessors-office. Cherokee County's overall real property digest for 2023 has increased by 21.81% compared to last year, with 15.01% attributed to inflation and 6.8% to growth. The majority of real property assessment notices, 89%, showed an increase in fair market value, with the average assessment increase being 15.01%. The Tax Commissioner's Office is expected to mail property tax bills later in the year. Residents who live in their homes may qualify for various exemptions, including homestead exemptions and the Property Tax Relief Grant.
