Kaksi miestä murtautui yön pimeydessä Petitin perheen kotiin Cheshiren kaupungissa Yhdysvalloissa. Miesten omien sanojen mukaan tarkoituksena oli viedä talosta mahdollisimman paljon rahaa ja arvoesineitä. Suunnitelma meni kuitenkin pahasti pieleen ja lopputuloksena kolme neljästä Petitin perheen jäsenestä menetti henkensä.
