Listen Later

Chester Arthur delivered his address upon assuming the office of the president on September 22nd, 1881. Read by Yuvraj Singh. For the 2nd time in the nations history, a sitting president was assassinated. Chester Arthur rose through politics as a part of Roscoe Conkling’s political machine in New York. But as it turned out, Arthur was to play his presidency safely. As president, he avoided the corruption the period was rife with and, though unpopular immediately after his presidency, has seen his reputation improve.

The cover art is an 1885 portrait of Chester Arthur by Daniel Huntington.
