The chemicals sector contributes 6% to South Africa’s GDP and 25% to the manufacturing industry, with revenue above $35.1 billion. However, the sector comprises of predominantly medium and large enterprises with limited representation from small and micro-enterprises (SMMEs).
The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) has partnered with the University of Johannesburg, Chemin Incubator and Shell Downstream SA to develop a small business support programme.
