Dr. Don St-Jon is a psychotherapist of many years who suffered intense abuse as a child. Through faith he was able to move forward, dedicating his life work to helping others deal with the physical, mental, psychological, and social abuse that they encountered as children or later as adults.
Our discussion focused primarily on child abuse and the responsibility that we have to God and society to speak out when we know that someone is being abused, in an effort to save that person’s life and mental wellbeing. Extreme abuse inflicted on an individual can cause deep emotional scarring for a lifetime, unless counselling is received from an experienced and licensed therapist.
We discussed parts of Dr. Don’s book, Healing the Wounds of Childhood and Culture: An Adventure of a Lifetime, which I highly recommend as an audio, Kindle, or soft cover to my audience, particularly anyone currently in an abusive relationship or whose children are being abused. Children are attached to their parents from birth and often choose to return to the abusive situation rather than to be taken from the home. However, the obligation remains to protect children, as they are without resources to secure help on their own. Dr. Don’s website is www.pathsofconnection.com. He is also on social media including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
