The pull of polarization is ever present in our society, and more and more recently we see the tribalism escalate into violence. Our divided culture is hellbent on retaliation and has seemingly set itself on a spiral into more and more violence. But science shows us this kind of polarization is in fact childish regression. And in his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls us to childlike behavior that works toward peace. How do we work toward reconciliation in a culture of retaliation? How do we love our enemies without becoming a victim ourselves? These are hard questions we’ll dig deep into as we work our way through Matthew 5:38-48 together.
